In the Aztec mythology, Huitzilopochtli defends his Mother from his 400 brothers and one sister who wishes to kill her. He manages to throw his sister's head into the sky, where she becomes the moon. His brothers flee into the cosmos to become the stars. In the Aztec worldview, this is why the Sun is constantly chasing the Moon and stars.
